Kegon Falls

Kegon Falls drops 97 meters over the edge of the caldera that holds Lake Chuzenji in Nikko, one of the tallest waterfalls in Japan. An elevator built into the cliff wall descends to a lower observation deck that faces the base of the falls, where the impact of the water sends a constant mist across the viewing platform. From the upper viewing area at the top, you see the full drop and the forested gorge below. The volume of water changes dramatically with the seasons, at maximum force during the spring snowmelt and lower and more elegant by late summer. Nikko's other main sites are reachable by bus from the same area.
