Kobe Nankinmachi Chinatown
market
南京町
Japan's oldest Chinatown with 100+ vendors selling pork buns, Peking duck, and bubble tea on a compact strip.
Kobe's Nankinmachi is one of Japan's three great Chinatowns, established by Chinese merchants in the 1860s when Kobe opened as a treaty port. The compact area packs over 100 shops and restaurants into a few pedestrian blocks, with street food vendors offering nikuman (pork buns), xiaolongbao, and freshly pulled noodles. The ornate Changanen Gate and the central square's Chinese architecture add visual drama.
