根津美術館
Over 7,400 Japanese and East Asian works of art in a diverse collection drawing art lovers worldwide.
A private art museum in Omotesando housing over 7,400 works of Japanese and East Asian art, including paintings, ceramics, lacquerware, and textiles, with several pieces designated as National Treasures. The building, designed by Kengo Kuma, uses a sweeping bamboo-screened entrance to transition visitors from the busy Aoyama street into a contemplative interior. The garden behind the galleries is the other major draw: winding stone paths, lanterns, moss-covered slopes, and a quiet pond that feel genuinely removed from central Tokyo. The iris display in early May and autumn leaf color in October add seasonal reasons to visit.
