Shirayama-Hime Shrine.
Shirayama-Hime Shrine at the foot of Mt. Hakusan has been a base for mountain pilgrims for over 2,100 years and now serves as the head shrine for thousands of Hakusan and Shirayama shrines across Japan. The main deity Kukuri Hime, whose name means to tie or bind, is venerated for reconciling the two creator gods of Japan and is considered a patron of matchmaking. An 800-year-old cryptomeria tree wrapped in sacred rope near the purification basin rises 42 meters with a 12-meter circumference at its base. The onsite museum holds rare historical materials from both the shrine's early history and the Maeda clan's rule of the Kaga domain.
