Japan's first convent of Trappistine nuns, founded in 1898 on a hilltop overlooking the city. While the monastery interior is closed to visitors, the French-Gothic red brick facade, manicured gardens, and gift shop selling nun-made butter cookies and Madeleines draw visitors year-round.
